Rarity Rock Radio Featured Artist/Band of the Month for December 2022: Birds and Arrows
Birds and Arrows latest album, Electric Bones, is a collection of thoughtful compositions, dynamic harmonies, and stellar vocal performances reminiscent of Fleetwood Mac. A lush combination of moody soundscapes, 70’s groove, and classic folk-rock, the collection as a whole is a wild ride through this longtime-married duo’s psyche during 2020’s lockdown.
Featured song for the month following the Top 22 of 2022 daily in December at 9am, Noon, and 6pm MST: “Strata Song” (from new album ‘Electric Bones’).
Here’s some fun facts directly from the band about the song!
“So, here’s a couple fun facts about Strata song:
first, it’s definitely one of our personal favorites on the record. It’s our rock song about geological time 😉
Looking at layers of rock is like looking back in time in a vast way…sort of like looking up at the stars and that concept is so intriguing to us. Especially when our normal concept of time was so bent and distorted by covid lock down when we wrote it.
The imagery from the song was conjured up from hiking in the desert (which we love so much).
The line “forge along the pink powdered rock ridge, stirring up the nightbird song, that echoes through the canyon” is about hiking Brown Mountain in Tucson Mountain Park. We love that hike and it’s always beautiful and inspiring to us to climb up to that ridge and look out over the desert floor. And the bird call featured at the beginning of the song is the Poorwill…a nocturnal desert bird that starts it’s familiar call right at dusk.”
